About Visit my eBay Shop: Aviation Collectables | Battle of Britain items | WWII themed covers | Concorde items | Post WWII aircraft covers Search my eBay Shop: Dambusters No 617 squadron signed by Flying Officer Ray Grayston who took part in the Dams Raid on 16/17 May 1943 No 617 Squadron cover depicting Guy Gibson's Lancaster AJ-G of 617 Squadron on the Dams Raid for which he won the Victoria Cross. The Dams raid on the 16/17 May 1943 was to target the Eder, Mohne and Sorpe Dams which used Barnes Wallis invention the 'Bouncing Bomb.' the cove also features the post war aircraft of 617 Squadron whcih was the Avro Vulcan. The Vulcan were capable of carrying Nuclear bombs and are shown in their distinctive white livery Cover bears UK Definitive stamp cancelled with 60th Anniversary of the Dambuster Raid postmark for the 17th May 2003 Scampton Lincoln (home of the Dambusters) showing a Lancaster over a broken dam. The cover has been personally signed by Flying Officer R E Grayston who was the Flight Engineer on Les Knight's crew aboard AJ-N for Nuts which attacked the Eder Dam. Only 100 of these covers signed by Grayston have been produced to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Dams Raid. Numbered and certified on reverse. Flying Officer Ray Grayston. Sergeant Ray Grayston took part in ‘Operation Chastise’ as the Flight Engineer on Pilot Officer Les Knight’s Lancaster ED912, ‘AJ-N’, which attacked the Eder Dam. On 15/16 September 1943 during a raid on the Dortmund-Ems Canal, flying low-level in poor visibility their aircraft hit trees and lost the two port engines and crew were forced to bale out. Grayston became a POW and was sent to Stalag Luft III.
